Illinois Becomes ‘Enchanted in the Middle of Everything’ for the Holiday Season

Illinois Office of Tourism Kicks Off its Holiday Campaign Showcasing Holiday and Winter Travel Across the State, with Nostalgic and Unique Campaign Extensions

CHICAGO – Just in time for the holidays, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), Office of Tourism (IOT) will transform the state into an “Enchanted in the Middle of Everything” experience, showcasing Illinois’ most captivating destinations throughout the season. In celebration, the campaign will feature a festive holiday gift kit giveaway and a dazzling new parade balloon at The Wintrust Magnificent Mile Lights Festival® in Chicago. These activations will highlight the fun, family-friendly and iconic spots that make Illinois the perfect place for a holiday and winter getaway.

From sparkling light displays and ebullient downtowns to cozy small towns and scenic parks, Illinois offers endless ways to embrace the magic of winter. Travelers can hit the slopes in Galena, adventure in the picturesque hikes around Starved Rock State Park, shop at holiday markets in Chicago or unwind with a warm drink at the charming inns and wineries across the state. Whether you’re seeking adventure or relaxation, Illinois invites visitors to experience the wonder that makes the season special.

“The holidays give us an opportunity to showcase the heart of Illinois through our welcoming communities, vibrant traditions and unforgettable destinations,” said Catie Sheehan, Deputy Director of DCEO, Office of Tourism. “We’re thrilled to share the magic of the season and inspire travelers to experience the warmth and wonder throughout the state.”

Beginning today, IOT will bring its “Enchanted in the Middle of Everything” campaign to audiences nationwide, with placements across 24 markets in 12 states — including throughout Illinois, the Midwest and as far as San Francisco. The campaign will appear across digital, print, streaming TV, audio and out-of-home platforms, featuring a standout multi-screen billboard in New York City’s Times Square. Spanish-language ads will also run in all participating markets across digital, social, audio and streaming TV channels.

Keep It Cozy Sweepstakes

IOT is proud to partner with Expedia and Fox River to launch a merry holiday giveaway. Beginning November 19, consumers can enter to win a kit that will help “keep it cozy” this winter, which includes the following: a plush Fox River Original Sock Monkey, an Original Rockford Red Heel Crew Sock to create your own Sock Monkey, a travel tin from Chicago’s Edgewater Candles, a pair of Fox River hiking socks and a $150 Expedia voucher to plan their own Illinois winter wonderland getaway. One grand prize winner will take home all of the above plus a $1,500 Expedia voucher to make their winter adventure even more magical. The giveaway closes on December 14. 2025 Wintrust Magnificent Mile Lights Festival®

Making a joyful return to The Wintrust Magnificent Mile Lights Festival® on November 22, IOT will debut its all-new parade balloon, “Big Lincoln.” Big Lincoln, a larger-than-life version of President Abraham Lincoln, celebrates the 16th president as the state’s favorite son while bringing a touch of whimsy and state pride to one of Illinois’s most beloved holiday traditions. The new balloon requiring 28 handlers marks IOT’s first-ever balloon appearance, adding a memorable highlight to this year’s celebration.
