CHICAGO – The new Travel Illinois magazine titled “Adventure Awaits,” is now available online and in print, offering travel inspiration for visitors looking for the perfect escape this fall and winter. From driving along Illinois’ Great River Road surrounded by picturesque fall scenery to ice skating in the middle of Chicago’s skyline at Maggie Daley Park, cooler weather offers no shortage of adventures across Illinois.

From north to south, the magazine highlights dozens of cities offering breathtaking views and local flavors, including:

  • Alton/Grafton, which boasts colorful panoramic views of changing leaves and limestone bluffs along the waterfront where the Illinois and Missouri Rivers meet The Mississippi.
  • Utica, where visitors brave enough to bare Starved Rock State Park in winter months can catch a glimpse of bald eagles feasting on fish in the cold waters of the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers.
  • Galena, featuring a 19th-century Main Street bustling with charming boutiques, art galleries and cafes as well as quaint bed and breakfasts with hillside views.
  • Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois, where hikers can take in lofty views of sandstone rock formations, cliffs and canyons at Garden of the Gods.

The “Adventure Awaits” issue also includes a feature on Chicagoland native and famed interior designer Nate Berkus. Berkus, who is known for his appearances and home makeovers on the Oprah Winfrey Show, discusses his love for the Windy City including his favorite restaurants, shopping and museums.
